Flipping The Script

It’s become somewhat acceptable in the post-corona society to embrace a mentality of laziness.

Not getting out enough with work stoppage, limited mobility due to lockdowns, and an overall decrease in active movement has done a number on people’s physical and mental habits.

Consequently, people have also adopted faltering dispositions coupled with apathetic attitudes as despair and tensions mount from a pending health crisis and global market instability

But life goes on.

Our ability to adapt in these moments of uncertainty is how people have moved society forward through the ages.

Sure, it may be difficult for you to be positive given the circumstances.

However, this doesn’t mean that the world will conform to your emotional instabilities as you very well may suffer the isolation of indifference and be left behind.

What could be the solution to all of this?

How about keeping in mind those people that are depending on you?

Your family.

Your friends.

Your community.

There is always someone who views you as motivation for their own journey. It can be positively, it can be negatively, this can’t be controlled. Either way you are affecting someone.

Giving up isn’t going to help the mental image that others have of you.

But what if you don’t care about what other people think? What if you only live to serve yourself and no one else?

Well then, aren’t you depending on yourself for survival? To stay in the game?

Opportunities are going to be infrequent in the current economy, and people looking to work with you won’t put up with your dejected attitude for long when there are many applicants waiting.

Protect your neck.

Use the following model in your interactions and you can’t go wrong,

  • Stand up straight
  • Extend shoulders back
  • Eye contact
  • Smile

When you “SEES the moment” it means that you are ready to interact by showing an alert disposition. You’re standing up without slouch in the shoulders. The shoulders are extending back, with the shoulder blades almost coming together. Eye contact is being maintained throughout the experience, although not too deep to stir up awkward feelings. Lastly, smiles should be utilized no matter what.

Consider SEES whenever you need a framework for basic body language. This will truly change the way others whom you interact with receive you.

Others will see you as a dignified individual. A difference form the scripted norm of people who have followed the trend of caring less about their appearance and demeanor.

You can also utilize SEES for digital interactions as well! Using video conferences to work for home is no reason to forget about the body language which you’re communicating.

Always remember when you see the moment, SEES the moment!
